Responsibilities of your Church Disaster Relief Leaders

Church Disaster Relief Director: 

  1. Chair the Disaster Relief Committee.
  2. Assemble Team coordinators.
  3. Plan meetings to prepare for disaster.
  4. Acquire a coordinator and help that person establish a plan of action and carry out duties.
  5. Relate to response coordinator, local non profit organizations and government authorities.
  6. Plan and coordinate groups before, during, and following a disaster.
  7. Alert coordinators and the Church Disaster Relief Committee.
  8. Prepare the teams to respond.

Church Resources Coordinator:

  1. Conduct an inventory of building facilities, equipment, supplies, and vehicles that might be used during a disaster.
  2. Create forms you will use during disaster relief.
  3. Determine, with the whole committee, what to recommend to the church regarding the use of facilities and equipment during a disaster.
  4. Enlist volunteers to assist with plans adopted by the church regarding the use of church facilities and equipment.

Church Volunteer Coordinator:

  1. Conduct a skills and talent survey of the church membership.
  2. Create a database of volunteers and skills.
  3. Arrange for orientation and training.
  4. Organize teams by skills; choose team leaders.
  5. Establish a telephone chain for notifying volunteers when a response is possible. Use non-disaster volunteers for calling.
  6. Activate the church disaster relief telephone chain.
  7. Gather volunteers at the church or other location for assignment to duties and work locations.
